Abstract

The article is focused on milestones in the development of procedural aspects of checking a crime report. The author analyzes a historical collection of such legal documents as “Russkaia Pravda” and “The Criminal Procedure Code of the RSFSR”, which are treated as national monuments of legal thought, as well as foreign legal sources. The author refers to the opinions of different scholars about the problem of verifying a crime report. The analysis of historical formation of crime report verification and the current Article 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation is conducted. The changes in the Article 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Russian Federation made by the Federal Law No. 23-FL “On the Amendments in Articles 62 and 303 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation and the Criminal Procedure Law of the Russian Federation” were taken into consideration.
