Abstract

The article discusses the problem of reconsideration of the function of a crime investigator in criminal proceedings as a self-determined party. Functions stated by the law and provided to the investigatory bodies, public prosecution office, and courts are analyzed in the article. Crime investigation is the main function of the preliminary investigation bodies, hence the specified requirements to the crime investigators in terms of detection, fixation, confiscation, and investigation of the incriminating and exculpatory evidence are also studied in the article. The independence and impartiality of criminal investigators are highlighted in the paper.
