Abstract

The article describes one of the methods used in criminology - crime forecasting. Criminological forecasting is described as a type of scientific forecasting and a method of crime prevention. The present study indicates that criminological forecasting of crimes is not only the central focus of criminal policy but also the scientific practical interest as it serves as the basis for the development of federal and regional criminological programs helping to formulate concise proposals and recommendations on crime prevention. Moreover, the authors claim that it is important that forecasting is designed not only to identify possible options for crime alteration but also to identify possible and effective ways of crime prevention.
