Abstract

The article analyzes the relations between the media and law enforcement agencies. The increasing influence of the media on public and individual consciousness is studied from the perspective of the criminological situation in the society. The need to change the vector of interaction towards the empowerment of the media is proposed to carry out preventive function associated

with the legal awareness of citizens and other measures of general crime prevention. Experience of Belarus on legislative consolidation of this function in the activities of state-owned media is shown. It is proposed to strengthen the implementation of the preventive function of the media, based on the coordination mechanism between social institutions and principle of partnership. This principle can contribute to the implementation of social obligations the media, including the implementation of the preventive function when it is not fixed by law.
